introducing the children's corridor
There are 50,000 children living within just a 40-square mile strip of Denver and Aurora. A staggering two-thirds of those children either live in poverty or are at risk of being left behind if preventive investments are not made in their future. The Piton Foundation's goal is for every child in this "Children's Corridor" to have a medical home and graduate from high school. To that end, we are committed to educating the community about the needs of these children and encouraging, as well as making, investments to ensure their success. Learn more. The Piton foundation makes "tax time pay" for low-income families
Over 7,000 Colorado families filed federal and state income tax returns free of charge this year through Tax Help Colorado, a partnership of The Piton Foundation and Colorado's colleges. Students at 14 colleges, who operated 22 free tax sites statewide, helped generate $13.2 million in federal and state refunds, including from the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC). For 20 years, Piton has conducted a statewide public information campaign to make sure eligible low-income families claim the EITC, which research proves does more to lift families with children out of poverty than any other government program. In Colorado, 323,000 low-income families received $660 million from the Earned Income Tax Credit.
