Health Coverage for More Coloradans Public Information Campaign

Campaign Update

The Piton Foundation considers access to affordable, quality health coverage to be an important factor that contributes to families’ overall health and financial stability.

Because of this, we have operated the Health Coverage for More Coloradans Public Information Campaign to help increase awareness among lower-income Coloradans about the new free and low-cost health coverage options available under the Affordable Care Act (ACA). Focusing on grassroots outreach, this campaign targeted Coloradans who are eligible for free coverage under Medicaid or lower-cost insurance through Connect for Health Colorado, and, over the past two ACA open enrollment periods, we have distributed millions of pieces of educational materials through community partners across the state. Download our 2014-2015 campaign report.

Since the ACA was implemented, Colorado’s uninsured rate has dropped from 14.4% in 2013 to 6.7% in 2015. More than 1.2 million people are now enrolled in Medicaid, and the recent Colorado Health Access Survey found that the uninsured rate for Colorado children is down to 2.5%, while the uninsured rate of those living below the poverty level is around 10%, down from 22% in 2013.

Given the progress that has been made in Colorado, especially among children and low-income families, Piton is refocusing its efforts on health coverage outreach by enhancing our long-standing Tax Credits for Working Families public information campaign to include more information on the tax implications of the Affordable Care Act. We look forward to helping Coloradans better understand how their health insurance status impacts their tax returns.

In addition, we still invite you to download our ACA educational materials, which have been updated with income limits for the 2015-2016 open enrollment period.
