The Piton Foundation's Tax Credits for Working Families Campaign

The Piton Foundation has conducted the Tax Credits for Working Families Campaign for 20 years. The primary goal of this campaign is to increase the number of eligible families in Colorado receiving the federal Earned Income Tax Credit, as well as other tax credits aimed at helping lower-income working families. About 268,000 Colorado families receive $470 million in EITC refunds. Read more: Report on The Piton Foundation's Outreach Campaign in Colorado: Tax Year 2008.

The Piton Foundation's campaign uses three strategies:

  1. a community outreach effort involving both direct communication with low- and moderate-income families and a joint effort with a wide array of organizations that work with this target population. Non-Profits: Help Your Clients Get Their Tax Credits
  2. an employer outreach effort aimed at informing businesses about the EITC and assisting them in helping their eligible workers to benefit from the tax credit. Employers: Help Your Workers Get Their Tax Credits
  3. a public advertising/media campaign seeking to increase overall public awareness about the EITC.

During the 2009 campaign, more than 1,300,000 pieces of EITC educational materials were disseminated statewide.
